1 Pint Shell Peas
These beautiful peas, also known as English or garden peas, are still in the shell. To open a pea pod, pull down on the stem to string it and gently push out the attached peas. Fresh peas can be blanched before serving in salted water. The pods can also be used to make a light stock if you simmer them in water for about half and hour - great addition to vegetable soups! Each pint will yield about a 1/2 cup of peas.
